(9) Penn State Nittany Lions @ Indiana Hoosiers
The Hoosiers have been a model of inconsistency all season long. The big story of for the Hoosiers recently was the emotional return of Bob Knight to Assembly Hall. This event also also coincided with a beat down by rival Purdue. Indiana has had several compelling wins lately, including impressive victories against Michigan State, 20th ranked Iowa, and Minnesota last week on the road.
They also have a pretty serious list of disappointing losses on their record as well. That is including a big 15 point loss the last time out against these very same 9th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. Indiana is a tough team to bet on because their struggles are no limited to road games. Indiana seems to win when their star player, Trayce Jackson Davis, plays well.
Last time out, Jackson Davis had his best game of the season, scoring 27 points on 11-14 shooting, with 11 rebounds in the Hoosiers romp of the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. In the previous game, when Indiana got romped by Michigan, Jackson Davis only took three shots and ended the game with 5 points. He’s going to need to do a lot better today if the Hoosiers want to pull off a home upset against Penn State.
There is a reason why Penn State is the 9th ranked team in the country. My biggest concern for Indiana coming into this game is hat the Nittany Lions are coming off a big home loss to Illinois, after cruising to nine straight wins. I am always worried about an elite team coming off a tough loss.
My concerns about Penn State coming to play hard today off their loss to Illinois also comes with my concern about Indiana coming off a big road win. Home court should give Indiana a bit of a boost, but will it really be enough to slow down Penn State? Indiana needs all of their players to have big, efficient games, especially Trayce Jackson Davis .
The Hoosiers are getting only 1 points on their home floor in this matchup. Penn State is a tournament bound, high seed, coming off a tough loss. Indiana is a team that needs its best player to have his best game of the season for the second game in a row. That is something that I just do not see happening. This is just a game in which I cannot bet against the superior team, which is clearly Penn State. I am taking the Nittany Lions to easily cover one point today in Bloomington and win the game 67-51.
